SHASTRA PARING KNIFE

The four knives of the Shastra line were developed by consulting with blacksmith Empu Ketut Mudra and feedback from various chefs around Europe and Indonesia.

First prototypes were forged, in the traditional manner. After much fine-tuning and careful readjustment, the perfect balance between the blade and hilt was achieved.

From there, the fascinating and time-consuming process of folding hot iron, nickel and high carbon steel over teak charcoal could begin. Ketut Mudra utilized ancient knowledge including traditional water hardening techniques and annealing of the blade.

Finally, to create the extraordinary sharpness of the Damascus pattern blade, the blacksmith's sons worked over a period of several days using a variety of natural whetstones to infuse assorted textures and precision to the edge.
